What is the Ultrasonic Welding Process?

The steps of Ultrasonic welding are as followed

Step 1—Nesting the Parts Together

The parts are first placed in the ultrasonic welding machine. Once the parts are placed in the machine, a low-speed ultrasonic pulse is sent out at the desired distance from the weld area.

Step 2—Bringing the Horn in Contact with the Plastic

In this step, the horn is brought in contact with the plastic. This is done by either pushing the horn into the plastic or by spinning the horn around at a high rotation speed for about 5 seconds. (When using this method, it is important that all parts are cooled down before welding. )

Step 3—Applying Pressure

In this step, the horn is pushed onto the plastic. For example, if the horn is being pushed into the plastic, a small amount of pressure is applied using a clamping device.

Step 4—Weld Time

At this stage, the horn has been welded to the plastic and the weld time is scheduled.

Step 5—Hold Time

The stress required to maintain the constituent parts glued during the plastic’s cooling and hardening cycle is sustained until the plastic has solidified sufficiently.

Step 6—Retracting Horn

Once the plastic has fully solidified, the horn is easily pushed back into its original form.

Step 7—Removing Horn from Plastic

In this step, the horn is removed from the plastic and placed on a surface to be cleaned.
